When laying a submarine cable for Orkubú Vestfjarðar in Skötufjörður in Ísafjarðardjúpur, a new, remote-controlled survey boat owned by Sjótækni was used to find the most suitable landing sites on both sides of Skötufjörður. The survey boat is equipped with a multi-beam meter that maps the bottom and the surrounding land so that a complete picture is obtained of the environment being mapped.
The employees of Sjótækni worked on laying a submarine cable over Skötufjörður in Ísafjarðardjúp for Orkubú Vestfjarðar in the beginning of July. The submarine cable replaces an older cable and thus increases electricity security. When laying the submarine cable, a barge owned by Sjótækni was used which is well suited for the equipment that needs to be used to lay submarine cables. The barge was towed by the boat Kafari in addition to which the boat Haukur assisted with the installation as both boats are owned by Sjótækni.
In addition to divers and other employees of Sjótækni, Orkubús' employees worked on laying the cable.
Sjótækni has introduced a new cleaning robot to clean the fishfarming nets in the cages. The robot is a Stealth Cleaner from the company Ocein in Norway. The robot is beltless and uses low pressure, which means that its use requires less oil consumption and prevents the net from tearing. Sjótækni's purchase of this device is one part of implementing the company's environmental policy, which stipulates that efforts shall be made to reduce energy consumption as much as possible in order to reduce the company's environmental impact. Sjótækni has an environmental certification according to the international environmental standard ISO 14001 and received its certification renewed this spring as well as passing certification according to the international safety standard ISO 45001.
