This summer and autumn, the employees of Sjótækni have been working on the bridge over the eastern estuary of Héraðsvatn in Skagafjörður. The steel pieces under the bridge were sandblasted and sprayed with the surface material Humidur, for which Sjótækni is authorized in Iceland. The project was carried out for Vegagerðin and in close collaboration with Acotec in Belgium, which is the manufacturer of Humidur. The project was quite complicated as floating scaffolding had to be used under the bridge to get to the bits when the material was sprayed, but it went well despite the different weather conditions. The project was completed at the end of September and was successful. This is the first time that the surface material Humidur is used in Iceland and it will be exciting to see how it turns out in Icelandic weather conditions. The bridge is right down by the sea in Skagafjörður and on the bridge there are northerly winds that carry salt deposits with the associated erosion of the steel pieces. It will therefore be interesting to observe in the future what effect these conditions have on the erosion of the pieces after the substance Humidur has been applied to them.
At Vegagerðin's conference in Harpa on November 1, Sjótækni's employees will present the project and its implementation and provide interested parties with further information on the material Humidur and its possible uses.
